Singular nouns 單數名詞

定義：如果指的是一個人、一隻動物、一個地點或是一件東西，就用單數名詞

單數名詞前須加a，若該單字開頭字母是母音(a, e, i, o, u)，則加 an.

a girl 一個女孩           an umpire 一位裁判

a monkey 一隻猴子    an elephant  一隻大象

a river 一條河             an igloo 一間冰屋

a ball 一顆球               an egg 一顆蛋

Plural nouns 複數名詞

定義：如果指兩個或兩個以上的人、動物、地點或東西，則使用複數名詞。

  

🔺大部分的名詞字尾加 s，就是複數型。

a girl 一位女孩 --- two girls兩位女孩

a monkey 一隻猴子 --- three monkeys 三隻猴子

an egg 一顆蛋 --- five eggs 五顆蛋

 

🔺如果字尾是s, ss, ch, sh, 及x，就在字尾加es

a bus 一台公車 --- two buses 兩台公車

a glass 一個玻璃杯 --- two glasses 兩個玻璃杯

a watch 一支手錶 --- three watches 三支手錶

a brush 一支刷子 --- three brushes 三支刷子

a box 一個箱子 --- four boxes 四個箱子

 

🔺如果字尾是子音加y，則將y改為i，再加es

a cherry 一顆櫻桃 --- some cherries 一些櫻桃

a candy 一顆糖果 --- some candies 一些糖果

🔺如果字尾是母音加y，則直接加s

a key 一把鑰匙--- two keys 兩把鑰匙

a toy 一件玩具--- three toys 三件玩具

何時用大寫字母

1. Use a capital letter for the first letter in a sentence. 

    句子第一個字的第一個字母用大寫。

    It's cold today. 今天天氣冷。

2. Use a capital letter for I.  I永遠是大寫。

    I'm eight years old. 我八歲。

    

3. Use a capital letter for names. 人名大寫。

  Abraham Lincoln 林肯

4. Use a capital letter for places. 地名大寫。

  Taipei 臺北

  

5. Use a capital letter for holidays, days of the week and months of the year. 節日、星期及月分用大寫字母。

  Christmas 聖誕節

  Tuesday 星期二

  January 星期一

名詞可分專有名詞與普通名詞

proper nouns 專有名詞

• 指特定的人、事或物的名稱
• 字首皆為大寫
• 前面不加冠詞(如a/an, the等)
• 通常為單數(少數為複數)

    人名：Danny, John, Michael Jackson

    地名：Taipei, Taiwan, Japan, Brazil, Jade Mountain

    公司名：Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Mercede Benz

    星期及月分：Monday, Tuesday, January, December

common nouns 普通名詞

• 指一般的人、事或物的名稱
• 除非在句首，否則都是小寫
• 若是單數前面須加冠詞，複數須標示
